About The Rooms PhilosophyThe Rooms is a service provided by the Foundation for Recovery, a 501(c)3 non-profit Public Charity located in Las Vegas, NV. The Foundation for Recovery is also classified as a public charity under 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Service.
The Rooms offer a serene sanctuary for members of twelve-step fellowships to hold recovery meetings. The Rooms is not affiliated, endorsed by, or connected in any way with any of the fellowships holding twelve-step meetings here. The Rooms is not a clubhouse. As the name implies, The Rooms are just that; meeting space available for recovery groups to hold meetings. We do not solicit dues, membership, sell personalized mugs to hang on the wall, or any of the other trappings often associated with recovery clubhouses. There are several alternatives available if you would like to locate a local recovery clubhouse. They are listed in the Foundation for Recovery’s Southern Nevada Recovery Guide. The Rooms only makes meeting space available for you to hold YOUR meetings. We have rules and regulations that are intended to ensure we have a clean, damage-free, safe, and secure space. Each group is then autonomous and free to create a “comfortable atmosphere of recovery.” By maintaining strong groups that have their own distinct formats, flavor, and personality, we give those seeking recovery an attractive and diverse recovery experience. Strong, independent groups are good for the group members and participants; it is good for the new member seeking recovery; and it is good for the growth and unity of other groups. To that end, we encourage each group to exercise its independent anonymity and develop a name for the group that speaks to its participants and the message you wish to carry. In casual references or announcements referring to an autonomous group by just its time and location takes away from the distinct character and flavor that is part of a vibrant and healthy group. We know the power and inspiration found at mutual support groups and believe each group at The Rooms will carry the message to many seeking help. It is important to keep in mind that a strong “recovery community” should not be dependant or focused on one location or one meeting space. On the other hand, we understand that the central location, stable rents, and diverse groups will be convenient and attractive to many seeking recovery However, it is for this reason that we discourage groups from moving to The Rooms that have an active and secure meeting space. The Foundation for Recovery also provides guides and directories for securing space at other places in Southern Nevada. Experience shows that having many choices in different locations and different times makes finding and experiencing recovery possible for more people. If a group wants to meet at The Rooms, it pays rent as it would to a church or a community center. No group of a fellowship utilizing the Twelve Traditions should lend an endorsement. Why? Because there should be nothing allowed that will divert a group from its primary purpose of carrying a message of recovery. It is our belief that recovery from addiction can be as far-reaching as the illness itself. We hope to provide a safe haven not only for the individual, but also for loved ones and friends who may themselves choose to be involved in recovery. |
